JUNIOR SEMI-FINAL REPORT: Classy Christians Beat Bandon To Book Cup Final Date

David Madden reports from Temple Hill

CBC will take on St Munchin’s in this year’s Junior Cup Final following an expected, but hard-fought victory over a spirited Bandon side at Temple Hill.

The first half proved a dull affair with handling errors preventing either side from gaining considerable momentum. CBC came closest, denied only by some impressive last-ditch defending by their Cork counterparts.

HT: CBC 0-0 Bandon

CBC eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute. A lineout inside Bandon’s 22 was well executed and some tidy passes later, Ben McGarry was sent over the whitewash for the game’s opening try.

You wait ages for one and then two come at once. Just a couple of minutes later CBC scored a second try. Like buses, their powerful forwards motored forward with purpose all the way to the Bandon line where George Coomber bundled over. 10-0.

And the cup tie was all wrapped up five minutes from time. Substitute Jason Aherne scored the 18-time winner’s third try of the day to set up a blockbuster final against Limerick’s St Munchin’s College.

FT: CBC 15-0 Bandon
