Denis Hayes reports from The Mardyke…
Glenstal have advanced to the Senior Cup semi-finals following an impressive defeat of Bandon at the Mardyke.
The first twenty minutes saw Glenstal dominate territory and would come close on more than one occasion, only for handling errors to undo their hard work. The visitors didn’t show any signs of frustration however and on the half hour mark Glenstal were in front when some great footwork from fullback Aran Egan set up Ronan Quinn for the game’s first try.
Just before half time Glenstal, were in again.A fifty yard break by lock Mark Fleming put Glenstal on the attack and a cross field kick by out-half Ben Healy was well caught by Andrew Hogan who beat his man to cross the line.
HT: Glenstal 14-0 Bandon
It took thirty minutes before a score in the first half, but only five minute after the break Glenstal were over the line again through Harry Benner.
Bandon finally got off the mark when Tom Beare latched on to a Jack Crowley kick to cross the whitewash with Crowley converting.
Unfortunately for the Cork side however, a few minutes from time Glenstal put the tie to bed with Quinn’s second try of the game.
Full time score: Glenstal 26-7 Bandon
