Before the first kick of a ball in this season’s Munster Junior Cup we had two outstanding teams tipped to battle it out for champion status.
St Munchin’s and CBC have been head and shoulders above the other competition in their age-grade for the past couple of years so it is no surprise to see the two heavyweights meet again in what will be a repeat of last season’s McCarthy Cup Final.
On that occasion CBC ran out as 7-5 winners in UL as their physical dominance proved the difference between the two sides in a gripping encounter. However, it was Munchin’s impressive skills, creativity and dangerous attacking play that caught the eye that evening and a year further down the line in their own physical development, there is certainly merit in expecting a win for the Corbally men this time around.
Particularly so when the 1998 champions come into the final confident off the back of a 26-20 defeat of PBC in their semi-final in contrast to CBC’s laboured but eventual 15-0 dismantling of Bandon Grammar School at Temple Hill.
One thing is for sure, this contest will go all the way. The question is who can adapt best to the pressures of cup final rugby.
Prediction: Munchin’s by 3
