Ronan Calvert reports from Irish Independent Park
The Junior Cup quarter final between St Munchin’s College and Presentation Brother’s College was abandoned earlier today following two nasty head injury incidents at Irish Independent Park
Almost immediately from kick off, PBC winger Conor Morey went over in the corner to put his side 5-0 up but that would be the only significant moment of play for the hour and a half that was to follow.

The first instance of a break in play arose when Munchin’s flanker Dylan Higgins clashed heads with teammate Dean Callinan as they attempted a tackle. Both were subsequently left in a dazed state with Higgins requiring twenty minutes of lengthily but necessary care from the medical team. The Munchins man was eventually stretchered off the field allowing play to continue.
But not for long.
On the eighth minute of action Munchin’s centre Craig Carew connected badly with a PBC hand-off to become the third player to have fears drawn to his head area. After many minutes of attention, the decision was made for the two teams and officials to leave the field of play down the tunnel.
For a finish, Carew was lead into an ambulance with his two teammates and the referee was left with no choice but to call a halt to the match.
Munster Rugby have stated that an outcome for the fixture will be decided in the next couple of days.
Munster Haka would like to wish Dylan, Craig and Dean a full recovery.
