The Munster Schools Cup season gets rolling again next week and we will be keeping you updated from around the grounds as we continue our work as Ireland’s #1 schools rugby providers.
Five games take place across the province in round one and these are our previews and predictions for each clash…
Clement’s Vs Crescent
Venue: Dooradoyle
Time: Tuesday (KO 2:30).
Crescent come in as heavy favourites for this one as they take on Limerick rivals St Clement’s on the familiar turf of Dooradoyle. Perhaps the lack of expectation will allow Clements to express themselves but we only see one winner here.
Verdict: Crescent by 20
PBC Vs Castletroy
Venue: Muskerry RFC
Time: Tuesday (KO 2:30).
PBC are a team with lofty ambitions this year as they look to win back to back Senior Cups. Castletroy come into the cup in confident mood, but this is hardly the ideal opening fixture for the Limerick side.
Verdict: PBC by 15
Glenstal Vs Rockwell
Venue: Clifford Park
Time: Wednesday (KO 2:30).
Two strong sides butt heads in this fixture with many expecting a cracker. Glenstal will have a strong set up again this year with a core group of players that helped the school reach only their second ever Munster Schools Cup Final. However, fellow powerhouses Rockwell edged them in the City Cup Final earlier this season, thus making themselves narrow favourites.
Verdict: Rockwell by 3
CBC Vs Ardscoil
Venue: Lansdowne
Time: Wednesday (KO 2:30).
CBC are tipped as heavy favourites for this one. The Cork school have been typically impressive this season and will back themselves against a spirited but inexperienced Ardscoil outfit.
Verdict: CBC by 15
Bandon Vs Munchin’s
Venue: Bandon RFC
Time: Thursday (KO 2:30).
Bandon have defeated Munchin’s twice in as many seasons since their induction in 2016, but don’t come into this season in as healthy a state following the graduation of a number of star players last Summer. The home fixture should help their cause, but defeating a Munchin’s side fresh off the back of a Charity Cup victory against Crescent could be too big an ask for last year’s semi-finalists.
Verdict: Munchin’s by 5
